A sports car (or sportscar or sport car) is a small, usually two seat, two door automobile designed for high speed driving and maneuverability.[1] Sports cars have been either spartan or luxurious, but good handling, minimum weight, and high performance are requisite.

These would shortly be joined by the French DFP (which became sporters after tuning by H.M. and W. O. Bentley) and the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. In the U.S. (where the type was variously called roadster, speedster, runabout, or raceabout, there was Apperson, Kissel, Marion, Midland, National, Overland, Stoddard-Dayton, and Thomas among small models (which today would be called sports cars), while Chadwick, Mercer, Stutz, and Simplex were among large ones (which might today be called sports sedans or grand tourers).[3]

In 1921, Ballot premiered its 2LS, with a remarkable 75 hp (56 kW) DOHC two liter, designed by Ernest Henry (formerly of Peugeot's Grand Prix program), capable of 150 km/h (90 mph); at most, one hundred were built in four years. This was followed by the SOHC 2LT and 2LTS. The same year, Benz built a supercharged 28/95PS four for the Coppa Florio; Max Sailer won.[3]

Simson in 1924 offered a Paul Henze-designed 60 hp (45 kW) DOHC 2 liter four, the Simson Supra Type S, in a long-wheelbase 120 km/h (60 mph) tourer and 115 km/h (71 mph) twin-carburettor sporter; only thirty were sold, against around three hundred of the SOHC model and 750 of the pushrod-six Type R. Duerkopp's Zoller-blown two liter in 1924, as well.[3]

There was a clear cleavage by 1925. As four-seaters were more profitable, two-seaters increasingly turned over to specialist manufacturers, led by Alvis, Aston-Martin, and Frazer-Nash, with shoestring budgets, fanatic followers, and limited sales (today exemplified by Aston and Morgan): between 1921 and 1939, 350 Astons were built; 323 Frazer-Nashes in the period 1924–39.[3]

By the end of the 1920s, AC produced a 2 liter six, the 3.5 liter Nazzaro had a three-valve OHC (only until 1922), while French makers Amilcar, Bignan, Hispano-Suiza, and Samson had the typical small four-cylinder sporters and Delage, Hotchkiss, and Chenard-Walcker the large tourers. Benz introduced the powerful SS and SSK, and Alfa Romeo, the Vittorio Jano-designed 6C.[3]

Two companies would offer the first really reliable sports cars: Austin with the Seven and Morris Garages (MG) with the Midget. The Seven would quickly be "rodded" by numerous companies (as the Type 1 would be a generation later), including Bassett and Dingle (Hammersmith, London); in 1928, a Cozette blower was fitted to the Seven Super Sports, while Cecil Kimber fitted an 847 cc Minor engine, and sold more Midgets in the first year than MG's entire previous production.

It's tough at the top... But that hasn't stopped the Peugeot 206 from enjoying seven years and half-a-million sales at the head of the supermini class. Smart looks and a huge choice of engines and bodystyles mean the British-built challenger is still fashionable, despite its advancing years.
Great diesel engines, a practical SW-badged estate and a coupe-cabriolet are all part of the appeal of the varied range. However, buying one isn't without pitfalls. Here, we check out the major factors to consider when splashing out.

Spare wheel: make sure there's still a spare wheel underneath the boot floor. It should be held in the cradle, but these items are easily stolen. If you want to keep your spare then buy a ΂£40 lock, which should mean it's there when you need it.

Instruments: indicator stalks are prone to breaking on post-July 2001 cars. They were often forced by ham-fisted owners, so check they are still working. Stronger parts were used from January 2003, so later 206s should be fine.

Engine: mounts often fail on 1.4-litre petrol variants, while all models in the range are prone to lower balljoint wear in the front suspension - which is an MoT failure point. Electronic management systems can cause trouble with automatic gearboxes.

Central locking: if water gets into the control box, which is located in the footwell, the central locking system is known to fail. Examples produced before spring 1999 are the worst affected by this problem, so check potential buys for water ingress.

Practicality: five-door models fetch a small premium. Expect to pay ΂£150-΂£200 extra, although sporty GTi (left) is three-door only. Lower-spec cars get a sunroof instead of air-con - but check these for rattles as they're impossible to fix.

What to look for

Peugeot's diesels are highly acclaimed, but avoid the unrefined 1.9-litre - available from October 1998 to November 1999 - as the 2.0 HDi which replaced it is much better. Post-January 2000 cars got a three-year warranty. Don't pay too much for special editions; these often offer little more than a fresh paint job and a better stereo over standard trim. And don't think the 206 CC is a four-seater - space is minimal in the rear.

The BMW 760Li, the largest and most decadent Bavarian machine offered today, just arrived at Road & Track’s doorsteps for a year-long stay. Not that we consider ourselves gluttons, but this car resides at the top end of a very wide vehicle spectrum—even surpassing the sticker of our previous exotic long-term Audi R8 with the BMW’s as-delivered MSRP of $149,025. What’s unique about the 760Li is that despite the caliber of pricey competition it associates with, it’s one vehicle that can easily fly below most people’s “wow” radar. At a quick glance you wouldn’t be able to tell the 760Li apart from its slightly less lavish siblings, the 740Li and 750Li, except for the quad exhaust tips (or the obvious decklid badge) that hint at a need for more breathing capacity.

The engine, beyond the myriad of luxury items and techno-toy features, is the underlying difference between the range-topping 760 and “standard” 7 Series. The tidy all-aluminum 4-cam 6.0-liter V-12 nesting under the hood, silenced (and enhanced) by a pair of turbochargers, sends 535 bhp and 550 lb.-ft. of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. The result: All two and a half tons of finely formed metal are accelerated to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds with the quarter mile coming up in 12.6 sec. at 114.9 mph. The problem we foresee here is not actually going the distance, but rather exhibiting proper restraint in how quickly we get there.

The list of standard features is staggering, but then again so is the 760Li’s base price of $137,000. For starters, BMW’s Active Roll Stabilization, Integral Active Steering (rear steer) and 19-in. wheels are standard items, which surprisingly makes upgrading to the M Sport package (which adds 20-in. wheels, Alcantara headliner, Shadowline trim, Aerodynamic kit and M steering wheel) much cheaper at $3900 versus the 750i’s tab of $7800 for the same hardware. All four seats—yes, there are just four including the driver’s—are heated, cooled, electronically adjustable, provide massages ($200 extra for the rear seats) and have individual climate control zones. The privacy blinds for the rear and rear-side windows can be operated electronically from any seat, as can the high-fidelity 600-watt 16-speaker dual-subwoofer audio entertainment system—should the driver be so daring as to relinquish that control.

Standard Active Blind Spot Detection and Lane Departure Warning provide visual and tactile alerts to keep you safe as rearview, around-view (bird’s-eye perspective) and front flank-view cameras just about eliminate any excuse for a parking lot incident.
The only other big-ticket items we added were the Rear Entertainment Package ($2200) that includes two tilt-adjustable 8-in. color screens replete with remote control, and an infrared Night Vision camera with Pedestrian Detection ($2600) that can scan people’s direction of movement up to 300 ft. and provide a warning if needed.
This is admittedly not an ideal time for excess. But should you decide to partake, we believe it’s best to motor quietly and carry a big stick.

Introduced in 1979, the Honda Prelude was the company's first attempt at building an exciting car that still held true to the core Honda values of intelligent design and reliability. Over the next two decades, the two-door sport coupe would become the primary performance car in the Honda lineup.
Although it was outfitted with relatively powerful engines in later generations, the Honda Prelude was not a muscle car. It was built around handling and drivability, while providing enough power to remain competitive.
Over its life, several new technologies for Honda Prelude were pioneered on the Prelude, such as fuel injection, four-wheel steering and Honda's Active Torque Transfer System. The Honda Prelude was also the first Honda model to get VTEC, the company's variable valve timing engine technology.
Though the Honda Prelude was very popular throughout the '80s, consumer interest waned in the '90s. Eventually, the Honda Prelude was trapped in an under-$30,000 no-man's land. For a sporty front-wheel-drive coupe, it was just too pricey, and it didn't have sports car looks or a sufficiently premium feel. By the turn of the millennium, the sport coupe market was a shadow of its former self. Honda dropped the Honda Prelude without a replacement after the 2001 model year. As a pre-owned option, however, the rewarding and reliable Honda Prelude merits serious consideration from driving enthusiasts on a budget.

The Fisker Karma has a bespoke aluminium spaceframe chassis with a rugged longitudinal spine that carries a mid-mounted battery-pack, big enough to propel this two-tonne machine from 0-60 mph in less than eight seconds, under Fisker Karma battery power only, and on to a 95mph top speed. With the nose mounted 2.0 litre, Fisker Karma 260bhp turbo four driving an on-board generator, the 0-60 sprint is slashed to 5.9 seconds, while the top speed climbs to 125 mph.

Propulsion is provided by rear-mounted two 201.5 bhp electric motors, one forward and one aft of the single-speed limited slip diff.
The cabin is snug rather than roomy for four (a result of the Fisker Karm body’s ultra-low dimensions and the fact that it runs 22-inch wheels) but Fisker Karma interior is one of the best features. certainly not like your usual German luxury ‘airport’ limo, all of which seem much more conventional and less sporty, though Fisker people do admit that in some respects (not rear packaging) the Porsche Panamera was their benchmark. You sit very low in the car, with a high centre console down the middle.

Fisker Karma driving is easy because engineers have tried hard to minimise the number of controls. You just press a start button, select D (or R) from a little PRNDL pyramid on the top of the console, decide which of two driving modes you want (electric only labelled Stealth, or engine-assist labelled Sport) and the Fisker Karma car creeps forward, just as it does with an ordinary automatic. There’s a synthesised external noise, which Fisker Karma engineers call Tron, to warn pedestrians that the car is running, but inside you hear very little the car moves forward quietly and without apparent effort.
Even on battery-only mode the car feels fast: with the engine on (it sounds a little pedestrian, but is admirably remote) the car is extremely swift. The Karma has excellent electro-hydraulic steering and an understeer-free chassis that seems to thrive on tight cornering. The car is a joy to drive on a tight handling course, and you can’t say that for every five-metre, two-tonne luxury saloons.

Even more dynamic, lighter, more powerful and stunning - the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is the new top model in the Gallardo line-up. Its evocative "superlight" badge refers to a driving machine of true sporting character and describes a high-performance and lean automotive athlete. The Superleggera makes its entrance to continue the success of its predecessor, launched in 2007, of which Lamborghini produced and sold no less than 618 in just one year.

Compared with the already lean Gallardo LP560-4, the weight of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera has been trimmed by 70 kilograms (154 lb). The super sportscar from Sant'Agata Bolognese boasts a dry weight of no more than 1340 kilograms (2954 lb) - the lightest road-going model in Lamborghini's range, and a new arrival in one of the most exclusive market niche segments.
One key factor is the exterior and interior components made from carbon-fiber. Carbon-fiber is ideal for the manufacture of sportscars as its use allows for weight reduction and improved mechanical features. The car's performance is thus enhanced thanks to a better weight-to-power ratio and reduced total mass, which means that CO2 emissions are also lower. Lamborghini has been at the forefront in this material's application for many years, and now the brand is extending its leadership even further.

The V10 power unit with 5.2 liters (317,6 cu in) of displacement generates 419 kW (570 CV) in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. This puts the weight-to-power ratio of the new top model at only 2.35 kilograms (5.18 lb) per CV and guarantees breathtaking performance. The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera handles the dash from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and flies past the 200 km/h (124 mph) mark only 10.2 seconds later, ultimately reaching 325 km/h (202 mph). The engine with "Iniezione Diretta Stratificata" gasoline direct injection also boasts an impressive degree of efficiency. Its fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 20,5 percent compared to the previous model.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is an uncompromising driving machine. Its running gear, with its mighty braking system, has a dedicated and exceptionally precise set-up, while its 19-inch wheels, Pirelli P Zero Corsa, clad in Pirelli sports rubber, are extremely light. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera brings a whole new meaning to the term "super sportscar".

Design and aerodynamics - The beauty of power
The elegance of every Lamborghini rests on both its extreme power and precise functionality. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera's bodyshell is sculptured and completely free from stylistic additions. Dimensions define the contours of a dynamic wedge - 4.39 meters (172,7 in) long, 1.90 meters (74,8 in) wide, but only 1.17 meters (45,9 in) high.

Exterior modifications are all directed at increasing aerodynamic effects. Working closely with wind tunnel experts, the designers from Lamborghini's Centro Stile remodeled the front bumper - three-dimensional, deeply recessed elements form trapezoidal frames for the large air intakes. Together with the V-shaped, sharply defined nose and the LED daytime running lights, the black elements give the front end a razor-sharp look, reminiscent of Lamborghini's top model. The new design increases the supply of cooling air and improves the downforce on the front axle.

The modifications to the fully-covered underbody, which include new sill elements and a redesigned diffuser incorporating four large tailpipes, help to achieve better aerodynamic results. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera sports a small rear spoiler as standard. A big rear spoiler is available as an option.

The bodyshell - Intelligent lightweight engineering
The model on which the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is based, the Gallardo LP560-4, is already a prime example of Lamborghini's lightweight engineering philosophy, with its dry weight of 1410 kilograms (3108.5 lb). Its bodyshell is made from aluminum, with moulded node elements and extruded parts forming an extremely stiff framework into which the aluminum panels are integrated. The spaceframe structure is impact-resistant and forms the basis for the super sportscar's precise handling.

Against this background, the task of reducing the weight by a further 70 kilograms (154 lb) presented a huge challenge to Lamborghini engineers - the target figure, a weight-to-power ratio of 2.35 kilograms (5.18 lb) per CV, sets a new best among the competition. Lamborghini engineers handled the task as they usually do - with hi-tech competence and aesthetic flair.

The rear windshield and side windows are made from robust and resistant polycarbonate. The engine cover also includes a polycarbonate window, beneath which the V10 engine is displayed like a technical work of art. The long cover section runs from the roof to the rear of the vehicle and is made from carbon-fiber. Engineers also selected carbon-fiber for the rear spoiler, sills, diffuser, parts of the underbody paneling and the fine exterior mirror casings.

With its minimal weight and extremely high rigidity, carbon-fiber is the ideal material for a super sportscar. As far back as the 1980s, Lamborghini was already gathering experience in this field with the Countach. Today, some parts of the Murciélago's structure are made from carbon-fiber. In order to secure this leading position even further, the brand from Sant'Agata Bolognese established a center of excellence for carbon-fiber materials, where specialists are developing components, working with efficient manufacturing technologies.

Lamborghini's carbon-fiber strategy is further proven by its foundation of the "Automobili Lamborghini Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory" (ACSL) at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. Lamborghini provides support to the facility and its long-term, co-operative research work in the fields of aeronautics and astronautics, together with the composite materials' application within the automotive sector. Alongside the University of Washington, aircraft company Boeing is also among Lamborghini's partners.

The aircraft manufacturer commands enormous expertise in the field of composite materials. With the new Type 787 Dreamliner, Boeing has developed the world's first commercial aircraft built entirely from carbon-fibre. Thanks to its superior characteristics, it consumes around 20 percent less fuel than a conventional aeroplane.

The interior and the use of carbon-fiber
Altogether, carbon-fiber components make up 40 (88 lb) of the 70 kilograms (154 lb) saved on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. In the interior, too, engineers aimed to reduce weight as much as possible. The center tunnel cover, the door panels and the surround of the e-gear automated manual transmission lever are made from carbon-fiber. The high-end material is also used for the sports seats' shells. They make a significant contribution to the overall weight reduction.

Just like the rest of the cockpit, the sports seats are clad in lightweight Alcantara instead of leather. At Lamborghini, weight reduction is in no way synonymous with sacrifice - the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is still equipped with air conditioning and electric powered windows as standard.

Lamborghini has built on this strength - the interior is crafted with passionate attention to the tiniest detail; high quality materials indulge both visually and sensually.

The interior, including roof and mats, retains the Lamborghini Gallardo's black finish. As a contrasting color for elements such as seat trims and stitching, customers can choose among green, yellow, orange and two shades of gray. Equally impressive is the pulling power - the torque curve peaks at 540 Nm (398,3 ft lbs) at 6,500 rpm. The increase of 7 kW (10 CV) is the result of the new dedicated engine management strategy.

The V10 has a displacement of 5204 cm3 and achieves a specific output of 80.5 kW (109.6 CV) per liter. Special features on this long-stroke engine with an aluminum crankcase include dry sump lubrication and a cylinder angle of 90 degrees. Both solutions lower the center of gravity, thus improving the handling dynamics. To ensure an ideal combustion chamber fill, the engine has an adjustable intake manifold and continuous control of the chain-driven camshafts.

The crankshaft is conceived as a dual-plane crank - the connecting rods of opposing pistons share one bearing. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is also considerably more efficient - compared with its predecessor, its fuel consumption in the EU driving cycle is reduced by 3,5 liters per 100 kilometer (0,9 gal), or 20,5 percent, to 13,5 liters/100 km (16 mpg). This improvement is partly due to the "Iniezione Diretta Stratificata" gasoline direct injection, which injects fuel into the combustion chambers at pressures of up to 100 bar. The tumbling mix cools the combustion chambers, which enables a very high compression ratio of 12.5:1 which, in turn, increases efficiency.

Power transmission - Traction without compromise
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera comes with the e-gear transmission operated via steering wheel paddles, as standard. The automated system with electronic management shifts through its six gears extremely smoothly and far more quickly than could be achieved by human reflexes.

The e-gear control unit has three operating modes, two of which available in automatic. The "Thrust mode" delivers maximum off-the-line performance and is programmed to manage starting revs of around 5000 rpm with minimal wheel slip.

Every single kilometer in the new Superleggera is utterly thrilling - not least because of the relentless traction in practically every situation. This is largely attributable to the four driven wheels, as indicated by the number 4 in the model name.

The permanent all-wheel drive integrates a central viscous coupling and a 45 percent limited slip differential on the rear axle. In normal circumstances, the power delivered by the V10 is channeled with a ratio of 30:70 to the front and rear axles. The weight distribution of the superlight Gallardo is 43/57 percent front/rear.

In 1993, the Diablo VT was the first Italian super sportscar with an all-wheel drive set-up, and Lamborghini has been steadily consolidating its leadership ever since. The new Gallardo Superleggera is a highly-concentrated driving machine - it thrills with breathtaking cornering speeds and fast, immediate feedback. Its handling is always precise, stable and predictable.

The running gear layout is derived directly from Lamborghini's motorsport experience. The suspension is aluminum double wishbones. The precise rack and pinion steering keeps the driver very closely connected with the road. The shock absorbers are extremely firm, and the anti-roll bars and suspension mounts have been further reinforced: these features enable the running gear to reach its full dynamic potential. No other model in the Gallardo range is as close to a race car as this one. The development of the Superleggera was heavily influenced by experiences gained from the world's fastest single-brand race series, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo.

Another special feature of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is the wheels. The 19-inch units are aluminum forged and are therefore extremely lightweight - saving 13 kilograms (28.6 lb). The wheel bolts are made from titanium and are also incredibly light and rigid. The tires are 235/35 ZR19 at the front and 295/30 ZR19 at the rear and come from the Pirelli P Zero Corsa series. Developed specifically for the new top model in the Gallardo range, they are closely related to pure race rubber.

Behind the huge wheels are brakes that serve to deliver uncompromising stopping power and are managed by the standard-fit ESP stability control system. The front wheels are served by aluminum eight-piston calipers, with four-piston units at the rear. The ventilated brake discs have a diameter of 365 and 356 millimeters (ø 14.37 x 1.34 in and 14.02 x 1.26 in) respectively. As an optional extra, Lamborghini can fit extremely fade-resistant and lightweight discs made from carbon-fiber ceramic with six pistons at the front. The front ceramic discs have a diameter of 380 millimeters (ø 15 x 1.5 in).

Alongside its specialized carbon-fiber lightweight components, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is delivered ex-works with an array of other high-end features. Highlights include the e-gear transmission - a manual gearbox is also available at no additional cost - the dedicated set-up, the Pirelli sports tires and the sports seats. Alcantara upholstery and a hand-stitched steering wheel also set the interior ambiance.

Unlike the great majority of things in life, the Lamborghini Gallardo just keeps getting better and better. And then better. First came the 2007 Superleggera and it was wonderful. One year later saw the introduction of the LP560-4 and it's safe to say that quite a few of us on staff here at Autoblog would choose it as our "lottery car." Then, while we were busy losing money on Power Ball, Lamborghini came out with the rear-wheel-drive Valentino Balboni. And while we're still busy picking our jaws up off the floor from that stunner, Lambo drops this lime-green bombshell in our lap.

Meet the 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. The numbers are stoo-pid good. Ready? 561 horsepower from the now quite familiar 5.2-liter V10, which is up from 523 hp in the 2007 model). The Superleggera also weighs just 2,954 pounds. The last Superleggera tipped the scales at (a still light) 3,153 lbs, which means the new, much more powerful car is 199 pounds lighter. In fact, it weighs 33 pounds less than a Porsche Boxster – which is nuts. How'd Lambo pull it off? Well, Superleggera means "light weight" in Italian. That being said, the weight savings mostly come from carbon fiber with the rest of the fat being trimmed off the lightweight aluminum wheels.

In person, the LP570-4 looks fantastic, especially in screaming Lamborghini green. The big visual news is the massive, Reventon-inspired front air intakes, but we like the giant rear diffuser even more. The Chevrolet Impala has loitered in driveways—and more than a few rental lots—in its current iteration since the 2006 model year, picking up features like E85 capability and handful of new colors along the way. A heretical SS model came and went, too, marking the first instance of a Chevy small block V-8 powering an Impala’s front wheels. Six model years later, someone at Chevrolet must have decided a refresh was in order, and so the Impala receives both a powerful new engine and lightly altered styling for 2012.

For 2012, Chevrolet has streamlined the Impala’s engine lineup from two ho-hum V-6s to a single, more-modern V-6. To replace the Impala’s two ancient pushrod powerplants—a 3.5-liter making 211 hp and a “range-topping” 3.9-liter pinching out a mere 230—Chevy dipped into the corporate parts bin and plucked out GM’s 3.6-liter direct-injected six, here making 302 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. The 3.6-liter can be found powering everything from the Malibu to the Cadillac CTS, and in this application pushes out just 1 hp and 71 lb-ft fewer than did the Impala SS’s 5.3-liter V-8, which was discontinued for 2010. Chevrolet also saw fit to upgrade the Impala’s transmission, yanking out the old-school four-speed slushbox and dropping in a six-speed automatic. The new engine and transmission should net the Impala improved fuel-economy numbers, but we’ll have to wait for its official EPA rating for the exact amount. The large sedan currently achieves 19 mpg city and 29 highway with the smaller 3.5-liter V-6, which isn’t terrible for a ton-and-a-half cruiser. In the somewhat heavier Buick LaCrosse, the 3.6/six-speed combo produces less power than it will here but only returns 17 mpg city and 27 highway.

The Impala’s looks have been gently warmed over, with an emphasis on “gently.” Malibu-like chrome mesh now adorns the grille and fog-light housings, replacing the horizontal slats on last year’s model. The headlights, bumper, and grille openings remain the same. The base Impala now rides on 16-inch aluminum wheels instead of steelies with hubcaps. (We expect more—and hopefully better—photos by the end of the month; the anticipation is killing us.) The interior of the Impala carries over, although Bluetooth connectivity is now standard on all retail Impalas, and optional on those destined for fleets. The current Bentley Continental represents the second-generation model, which debuted in the 2011 model year. This new model is not a major departure from the previous GT, amounting to more of a light refresh. Bodywork has been sharpened slightly, with a more upright grille, LED running lights and a more prominent trunk bustle. Improvements were also made in regards to handling, power output, rear-seat comfort and the previously outdated infotainment interface.
With twin-turbocharged W12 power, the finest materials furnishing the cabin and a powerful, bulldog-like presence, the Bentley Continental GT and higher-performance GT Speed and near track-ready Supersports have few peers. The GT Speed was the most powerful automobile Bentley ever produced until the introduction of the Continental Supersports, which is covered in a separate review.
As one might expect, the Bentley Continental GT comes loaded with features. Highlights include 20-inch wheels, parking sensors, four-zone climate control, xenon headlights, adjustable suspension damping, 10-way power front seats, a navigation system and an eight-speaker audio system. In addition to its more powerful engine, the GT Speed gains 20-inch wheels with 13 dual spokes, darkened chrome mesh grilles (upper and lower), diamond-stitch leather upholstery, three-spoke steering wheel and other upgraded interior trim. The Supersports sacrifices some of these features for the sake of weight savings.

So i've been thinking since the 2012 Camaro SS coupes have a new improved suspension(FE4 v.s the old FE3) I been wondering how much of an improvement it is over the FE3 and should GM offer the FE3 on the V6 models as well as a trickle down. I'm also wondering handling wise and steering wise how close is it to the Mustang GT now. In past tests the Camaor SS has pulled 0.90-0.92g with the FE3 suspension and the 2011 mustang GT has pulled 0.95-0.96g . I'm thinking the new FE4 Camaro can pull a 0.94g maybe 0.95g and steering feel will be as good as the stang GT. And a 25.2 figure eight at 0.84g compared to the previous 25.8 secs at 0.80g. With that said I think it'll be at best right there with the stang handling wise as the weight holds it back but it could possibly be the car that peple originally predicted and hoped it would be handling wise when it was released. What do you guys think?

Their answer, delivered with zero hesitation and a perfect poker face? The Cadillac CTS-V. That utterance shut us up so quickly that we had to sit back in our chair to ponder the bold response.

The new 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8, the highest-performing model ever in Chrysler's lineup, boasts a powerful 6.4-liter Hemi V8 punch, massive Brembo brakes, lightweight forged wheels, countless hours of suspension tuning and a slew of cosmetic goodies. It is, without question, a very impressive sport sedan. But choosing a target like the CTS-V, Cadillac's highly regarded flagship performance vehicle, may reveal a bit too much confidence. After all, the CTS-V isn't just more powerful – its chassis is a bit lighter, it's shorter in stature and it wears stickier shoes. Of course, it's also much more expensive.

We didn't question Chrysler's comment, or even raise an eyebrow to their claim. We were, after all, sitting at a racetrack with a 300 SRT8 idling in the hot pits just a dozen yards away. Nearly seven years later, we're at the famed Willow Springs Raceway in the high desert of Southern California. The interior starts with a leather-wrapped, heated SRT steering wheel with metal paddle shifters on each side. Integrated into the dashboard is genuine carbon fiber trim, gloss black surrounds and chrome accents. The standard sport seats, upholstered in Alcantara and leather, are heated and ventilated and feature the SRT logo emblazoned on the seatback. The door panels mirror a similar treatment. Underfoot, the accelerator and brake pedals are metal with small rubber nubs for better traction. The car in our photographs was configured with the Radar Red interior, one of two standard colors. For something a bit less boastful, choose the simple black interior or upgrade to the premium leather with Poltrona Frau Foligno upholstery with leather-wrapped door panels, instrument panel, cluster brow and center console side panels - it's quite classy.

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup - the most successful race car on earth - has been improved even further for the 2012 model year. This year’s model gets the added bonus of a 100-liter FT3 safety fuel tank which is filled via an opening in the front bonnet. This new tank will make the GT3 Cup an even stronger opponent for a number of endurance races.

The Porsche GT3 Cup is based on the lightweight 911 GT3 RS (997) street sports car and will feature the same six-cylinder engine, but will be combined with a race exhaust system with a controlled catalytic converter to keep emissions to a minimum. This setup will mean that the GT3 Cup will push out a total of 450 HP at 8,500 rpm.

The 911 will also receive light alloy rims measuring 9.5Jx18 with 25/64-18 Michelin race tires. The new wheels will be combined with blade-type anti-roll bars at the front and rear adjustable in seven positions and PCCB Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake that will reduce the car’s weight by around 44 lbs. The interior will receive a special racing steering wheel with the controls for the info display right on it.

The 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will be delivered to teams around the world from September and will be run in this specification for the 2012 and 2013 race seasons. It is priced at 161,750 Euro or about $234,000 at the current exchange rates.

If there's one thing you can't blame Porsche for, it's not offering enough variety. The Carrera and Turbo models are available in coupe and convertible (Cabriolet) body styles, while the Targa model is essentially a hatchback coupe with a large sunroof and rear hatch made from glass. All-wheel drive and larger rear fenders are added to the Turbo models and any 911 with "4" in its name. The bigger rear fenders are also found on the GTS and Speedster. The GT3 models and GT2 RS are coupe only, while the 911 Speedster is convertible only.
The Carrera models get a 345-horsepower 3.6-liter flat-6 engine and the S models get a 385-hp 3.8-liter flat-6. This engine produces 408 hp in the Carrera GTS and Speedster trims or when equipped with the optional Carrera S Powerkit.
Then there are the high-performance offerings: Turbo, Turbo S, GT3, GT3 RS, GT3 RS 4.0 and GT2 RS. The all-wheel-drive Turbo gets a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-6 good for 500 hp and the Turbo S gets an additional 23 horses. The rear-drive, sport-tuned GT3 has a 435-hp naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-6 and the GT3 RS is a track-ready version of the same car with 450 hp. The GT3 RS 4.0 has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo flat-6 good for 500 hp, while the outlandish GT2 RS gets a version of the Turbo S engine turned up to a truly sensational 620 hp. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on all 911 models, but optional on all but the GT3 and GT2 trims is Porsche's seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual known as PDK.
At once refined and visceral, most of the 911 variants are equally comfortable tearing through a twisty road or smoothly dealing with the daily commute. This dual nature is improved with the PDK dual-clutch automated manual gearbox, which represents the best of both transmission worlds. In manual mode, shifts are smooth and rapid, giving a level of control to the driver that the old Tiptronic auto could never approach. At the same time, PDK allows for seamless gearchanges in full-automatic mode without the herky-jerky nature of similar automated manual transmissions.
The high-performance 911 editions are less commuter-friendly, but they offer performance and handling on par with exotic supercars. Yet the "base" 911 Carrera should be more than enough, as that car will blast to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds and hit a top speed approaching 180 mph.
We've never been shy about our affection for the Porsche 911 -- regardless of body style or engine -- and our complaints were few. We say "were" because Porsche addressed most of them in its most recent redesign, leaving "overpriced options" as its lone detractor.

Last week Toyota showed off its new 2012 Camry sedan to its dealers at a national meeting in Las Vegas, and now a video taken at the meeting has surfaced, showing the upcoming sedan in the buff. The bad news? The video was taken down within a matter of hours after it was posted to YouTube this morning. The good news? We managed to snag a screen grab from the clip that shows the front and rear of a pair of Camrys on a stage. The red Camry, with its five-spoke wheels, aggressive air intakes, and ground-effects package, looks to be an SE model (Toyota’s “sporty” Camry designation) while the black one in the foreground is likely an uplevel XLE.

The Bugatti Veyron is (still) the world’s fastest production car, having just wrested the crown from itself in a successful world-record attempt. On Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test track just outside of Wolfsburg, Bugatti’s official test driver got the new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport to hit a two-way average speed of 268 mph. That terminal velocity eclipses the original Veyron 16.4 coupe’s by 15 mph. It’s faster, all right, and conditions on Saturday allowed a top speed higher than the Bugatti team was even expecting—they forecasted a conservative, and utterly tame by comparison, 264 mph.

Production versions of the Super Sport will have their top speed electronically limited to 258 mph, in order to protect the tires from certain, expedient death. To achieve that higher velocity, the car has undergone a pretty significant aerodynamic rework, with the most obvious change being the removal of the steamship-esque silver air intakes. They’ve been replaced by a pair of roof-mounted NACA ducts, and the roof itself has been extended rearward to mostly obscure the W-16 engine, which itself has been tweaked. The four turbos are larger, as are the intercoolers that feed them. Output is now 1200 hp (up from the cooler-sounding 1001) and 1106 lb-ft of torque (an increase of 184 lb-ft). Better breathing is facilitated by a new front fascia with larger openings, and there’s a double diffuser in the rear that incorporates twin center-mounted exhaust tips in place of the “regular” Veyron’s single, squared-off outlet.

The suspension also has been modified, with longer spring travel, stiffer anti-roll bars, and new dampers. Bugatti claims to be using a new structure for the carbon-fiber monocoque that increases torsional rigidity while reducing weight. And speaking of carbon fiber, Bugatti says it will offer the Super Sport with all of its body panels clear-coated to showcase the weave. The record-setting car, seen here, makes extended use of the cleared carbon, underlining it with orange accents; the first five Super Sports (which are already spoken for) are outfitted to match, called the World Record Edition.

About that name: Super Sport is a suffix that has traditionally been associated with Chevy’s SS cars, and recently we’ve seen variations of it applied to Bentleys (the Continental Supersports) and Jaguars (XJ Supersports). Based on this newfound popularity, we’re declaring “Super Sport” to be the new “Sport.” Expect the Koreans to co-opt it next.

The Super Sport will make its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. Production begins in the fall at Bugatti’s Molsheim Veyron hand-crafting facility. We’re waiting for the inevitable roadster version, which will have to be called Super Grand Sport. Pricing hasn’t been divulged, but if you have to ask, you’re not Super Rich enough, Sport.

We’ve been lucky sufficient to have a lot of monster trucks to choose from, even though some have come and gone. We all have our favorite monster trucks and there strength even have been a few that you don’t know about. Here’s our top 10 list of the greatest monster trucks ever to be produced. In alphabetical order, here they are.

1. HPI savage

The HPI Savage was one of the first nitro-powered monster trucks to use a twin upright plate chassis. It also uses the longest shocks ever used on a monster truck. Several versions of the truck have been available since its free and through the years it has been ready with different sizes of big-block nitro engines and brushless motors. You can find this monster truck on racetracks, pulling tracks and bashing in the backyard.

2. Kyosho USA-1 and Nitro USA-1

This wasn’t Kyosho’s first electric monster truck but absolutely its most popular. It was modeled after the full-size USA-1 Monster truck but featured self-governing suspension. There was also a nitro version that was based on a Kyosho 1/8-scale buggy chassis. The body was molded out of Lexan but used regular plastic components such as a grille, roll cage and bumpers to improve the look of the truck.

3. Losi LST

We never thought we would see a monster truck coming out of the doors of the Losi office and in true Losi fashion, it was fundamentally different from anything in the hobby shops at that time. The mammoth size of the shocks stood out on this monster truck and it was packed full of sole features such as a multi-disc slipper clutch, two-speed transmission and dense reversing transmission. This truck was also prepared with lots of wheelie-popping torque thanks to the shaft start big block engine on board. Today, Losi offers the LST in XXL form and you can even pick up a budget version of the truck called the Aftershock.

4. Tamiya Blackfoot

If you wanted a monster truck back in the mid-80s, this was the truck to get. It communal a chassis and suspension with the Tamiya Frog and an injection-molded body topped it off. Aftermarket items such as a ball differential and dogbones were accessible by a few companies to increase its durability and performance. The body is still required after today by scale guys and we have our fingers crossed that Tamiya adds this one to its re-release list.

5. Tamiya Clodbuster

At the time of its release, the Clodbuster blew everyone away with its size and awesome scale looks. It didn’t take long for hobby shops to be busy with aftermarket components for this truck. It was used to build pulling trucks, rock crawlers, race trucks and scale trucks. You can still buy the Clodbuster today, but with the Super Clodbuster label and it skin blue suspension components. One of the most popular mods for this truck is to ditch everything but the axles and convert it to a four-link suspension with lightweight chassis.

6. Tamiya Lunchbox

The Tamiya Lunchbox was the smallest monster truck in the Tamiya lineup at the time, but one of the most fun out of the box. The front used an self-governing suspension while the rear solid axle gearbox pivoted in the chassis, which helped it create lots of wheelies. This truck borrowed components from the Tamiya Hornet and its body was unusual because it was a van in its place of a pickup truck.

7. Team Associated MGT

The MGT was also a truck that we never thought we would see because Team Associated was always known for its racing vehicles. The extruded aluminum chassis stood out and it is a super strong base for the rest of the mechanism that are mounted to it. This truck can be set up with two different exhaust configurations and the engine features a shaft starter and a pull-starter to get it fired up. Today, the MGT is offered in three different forms; you can pick up the MGT 4.6, a Mini MGT which is a 1/10-scale version, and the insanely overpowered MGT 8.0. The 8.0 uses a .50 cu. in. engine, which is the biggest engine obtainable in any monster truck.

8. Traxxas Revo/E-Revo

The nitro-powered Traxxas Revo is one monster truck that stands out in every way; the monocoque chassis and inboard mounted shocks won’t be found on any other monster truck. The suspension is also the most adaptable around; you can change shock springs, shock fluid, rocker size and you have optional mounting holes for the pushrods. The electric version called the E Revo borrows the same suspension and the molded plastic chassis stores the batteries on each side and they are secluded on all sides.

9. Traxxas Stampede/Stampede 4X4

The Traxxas Stampede has been approximately longer than most of the trucks on this list and has also been the base of many projects. This high-riding 2WD monster truck can be set up for jumping, bashing or all-out speed. You were even able to pick up a nitro version of this trick truck. One popular mod to this truck was to convert it to a 4X4 and now Traxxas has answered the call and produced the Stampede 4X4, which is an all new platform with lots of tunability.

10. Traxxas T-Maxx/E-Maxx

The Traxxas T-Maxx can easily be accredited for the monster truck explosion in the early 2000s. There were nitro-powered monster trucks out there, but none could be compared to the T-Maxx. Its plush suspension, high-riding stance and power were unrivaled at the time. This truck also lead the way for RTR vehicles; it was one of the first high- performance vehicles to come out of a box. Soon after the release of the T-Maxx, Traxxas introduced the electric-powered E-Maxx. Both trucks are still obtainable today in updated forms.
